Wine Making

The state of the art winery was first opened in 2010 and now all Nutbourne wines are produced on site. Total wine production is between 40,000 and 60,000 bottles per year. Winemaking is headed up by our consultant Wine Maker, Owen Elias, several times winner of the UK Wine Maker of the Year. Owen possesses great knowledge and expertise; a very natural approach and talent; and hands-on involvement in every stage of the production. He achieves outstanding results at both Nutbourne and the other vineyards where he is involved.

Nutbourne regularly wins awards, medals and trophies in both national and international competitions.

Nutbourne Vineyards are delighted that we won Gold for our Nutbourne Sussex Reserve 2013, the first still English wine to take home a gold medal at the International Wine & Spirit Competition.

NUTBOURNE NUTTY BRUT 2014

 

5TH YEAR IN A ROW FOR NUTBOURNE

 

Our Nutty Brut has won Silver at the International Wine & Spirit Competition

 

Nutbourne Vineyards are pleased to announce their Nutty Brut 2014 has won a SILVER Medal in this year’s International Wine & Spirit Competition.

 

This is the fifth year in a row that Nutbourne have won a medal, including GOLD for Nutty Brut 2013; first still English wine GOLD for Nutbourne Sussex Reserve 2013; and prior to that our Nutty Brut 2011 one of only two Gold Medals in its year.

Nutbourne Vineyards also had success with the white wine blend Sussex Reserve 2016. Sussex Reserve is a dry white wine using Bacchus for its elder-flower characteristics, Huxelrebe and Reichensteiner for fruit and acidity, and Pinot Noir for depth.

BRONZE for Chardonnay 2014

Nutbourne’s single grape Chardonnay vintage. It is un-oaked, with citrus flavours. Well worth a try.

Sussex Reserve 2013. The judges tasting notes said “Pale lemon colour. Nose is fragrant, delicate and floral, packed with greenfruits and nettles, very English, a hint of custard. On the palate, very pretty with crisp acidity supporting purity of fresh fruit and waxy texture, long finish. Very well-done. Superb wine.”

Previously, Nutbourne was pleased to win one of only two Gold Medals in 2014 for our Nutty Brut 2011 Sparkling and now to have a similar achievement for one of our still wines is a great honour.

This builds on our success last year when our Nutty Brut 2010 won the United Kingdom WINE OF THE YEAR 2013.

It was described by the judges (all Masters of Wine) as follows: “pale gold, persistent bubbles & cordon; yeasty with a hint of toast, apple/pear fruit; rich palate with noticeable autolytic character, excellent concentration balanced with crisp acidity & density of flavours, delicate mousse, very good length Gorgeous!”
